The RACEPAK digital gauge arrived a few weeks ago but I didn't have time to look at it closely. BigAl1 did the initial research on this unit and kindly provided me with his thoughts on using this gauge in his ULTIMA and has also tested it interfaced with the ULTIMA harness (Loom).
It has tremendous functionality for the price - $695USD and will take care of virtually everything in one 10inch X 4inch unit:
- speedometer
- odometer
- high beam
- parking brake
- turn signal indicators.
- water temperature
- oil temperature
- oil pressure
- fuel pressure
- fuel level
- battery voltage
- tachometer
For about one hundred dollars more RACEPAK make this gauge with data logging capability, which would be useful for track junkies. They also make a newer version with a GPS interface. RACEPAK are well known in NASCAR circles and have developed a good reputation in North American racing and have a loyal clientele for their products.
I intend to mount my gauge using a heavy duty lockable aluminum swivel base so that it can be inclined or swiveled in any direction on the dash - the exact details need to be worked out but the idea comes from the gauge pod in the Ferrari Enzo, which can be inclined up or down to suit the driver. At least that is the plan at the moment.
